Little Servants of the holy family

Little Servants

The spirituality of the Congregation
is the spirituality of the Incarnation.

The Incarnation is the mystery
by which the Son of God,
in order to save all people,
took the form of a servant
and became truly human like us,
revealing God’s love for humanity.

For a Little Servant,
living the Incarnation means,
with self-emptying and humility,
dedicating herself wholeheartedly
to nurturing and sustaining life in the world.”

- Light of the Holy Family, Article 2 -

We live out the
prophetic mission of the Incarnation.
Through continual prayer and action in the world,
we are sent with a preferential option for the poor—
those who cannot safeguard their rights and dignity—
and we reveal the merciful face of Christ to the world.

- Light of the Holy Family, Article 3 -

Unceasing and ardent,
the current of the Incarnation
moves a Little Servant to leave her place,
to set out, and to empty herself.

The history of the Little Servants has been one
of discerning the poorest places of each era
and, through self-emptying, descending to them.

We contemplate and discern
the circumstances and calls of our time
from a broader, cosmic perspective,
and we make pioneering and courageous choices and responses.

- Light of the Holy Family, Article 45 -

Thirty years ago, at the request of Bishop Jorge Mario Bergoglio,
the Little Servants went to Argentina.

The love of the Incarnation,
flowing even to the lowest places
and filling the whole universe,
goes beyond every boundary— between 'I' and 'you,'
and between ‘us’ and ‘them’—
and sends us running wherever the Lord calls,
even to the other side of the world.

"As your name,
'Little Servants of the Holy Family,'
implies, you have been a role model
in the lives of others.
Through the abundant love of the Lord,
you have overcome all adversities
with the humility that symbolizes
the Holy Family of Nazareth –
Jesus, Saint Joseph, and the Virgin Mary.
Never leave the lessons of Nazareth.
(Always remain humble.)"

- From the Vatican, March 24, 2013 -

Living in this era,
the Little Servants of the Holy Family,
following the teachings of our founder,
Fr. Seong Jae Deok Pierre Singer,
who, alongside Jesus occupying the lowest place,
resist a world that destroys the life cycle
of humanity, the Earth, and the ecosystem,
live out 'Rejoice, Little Servants!' as follows.

Rejoice, Little Servant!
Rejoice, even when everyone forgets you and you are not recognized.
Rejoice, even when your body and mind are not appealing.
Rejoice, even when others oppose you.
Rejoice, even when you have to do menial tasks.
Rejoice, even when no one needs you.
Rejoice, even when your idea is not sought.
Rejoice, even when no one believes in you.
Rejoice, even when you are treated as the last.
Rejoice, even when no one praises you at all.
Rejoice, even when you are not treated as importantly as others.
